HBCU & MSI SCIENCE POLICY COLLEGE TOUR

Structural Change within Science Policy

The HBCU & MSI Science Policy College Tour was launched as a response to the lack of diversity, inclusion, and representation within the field and organizations of science policy at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges, and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). Black, Latino, Indigenous (or Native American), LGBTQ+, and persons with disabilities face significant disparities with respect to representation, as compared to their counterparts at Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs). The goal of the HBCU & MSI SciPol College Tour is to introduce the field of science policy to early-career STEM students, scientists, and researchers from these schools to help inspire, empower, and provide the next generation of science policy leaders with the tools to succeed and thrive in science policy, advocacy, and public discourse revolving around issues where science can be utilized to positively impact underserved populations and reduce racial disparities.

"We designed the tour to inspire students as we were motivated by our high school college tour experiences at North Carolina A&T State University. These tours gave us an opportunity to see ourselves at a University, and to know that we could succeed in areas of science, technology, and math." - Dr. Jasmine George, HBCU Science Policy College Tour Founder
